elkins-small-light
Frances Elkins Cast Plaster Shell Ceiling Light, 1952

The stunning shell form ceiling light came out of a Frances Elkins designed San Francisco interior from 1952. The entire living space featured a superb array of Elkins sourced pieces including ceiling lamps, mirrors, console tables, a dining set, a large sofa and lounge chair, and table lamps. This piece is the smaller of the two shell lights and hung from the ceiling in the living room. The light is made of cast plaster and features sculptural, scalloped edges and uneven rippled surfaces. The lacquered metal suspension chain and mounting elements, as well as the wiring, are all original. The light has developed a beautiful, even yellowed patina over the years which adds to its charm and warmth. It is in absolutely fantastic vintage condition without and cracks or chips.

While this piece can only be heavily attributed to Elkins, we feel very confident in our assessment. Some of the pieces from this estate can be seen in other documented Elkins interiors including the home of David Adler (1941), the Clairmont Country Club (1947), as well as the collection of Katherine Elkins Boyd (Francis Elkins' daughter) who had an identical mirror from this collection. This information, in combination with the time period of the pieces and the location of the interior, as well as the quality and variety of the items, gives us a very confident opinion that these are in fact original Elkins pieces. The last photo shows a similar example of this light in the Clairmont Country Club, 1947. The last photo shows a similar example of this light in the Clairmont Country Club, 1947.

Dimensions:

16.5"W x 16.5"D x 4.75"H

Hangs 18" from ceiling.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0262/1892/2047/files/A6A7B2F4-FD3D-46C9-BECB-714884BBBDFD.jpg?v=1792692512
