Production of Isamu Noguchi's Akari lamps started after a 1951 visit to Gifu, Japan a town known for their production of traditional lanterns and umbrellas. Noguchi's adapted these methods and materials (bamboo and mulberry paper) for the Akari series. This special example is model Akari X1 with base BB2. Rarely do you see original shades and bases paired together, these two have always been together and date from approximately the 1970s.
Condition: Excellent original condition, with a couple small holes in the original paper shade.
