An early and fabulous "Bastiano" sofa designed by Afra and Tobia Scarpa and produced by Gavina in Italy in 1969. This wonderful example features a rare solid rosewood frame which was unique to early production pieces. The sofa also features the original feather cushions which have been beautifully reupholstered in a cognac vegetable tanned lambskin leather. The leather is extremely soft and supple and will patina beautifully with age and use. The rosewood frame has been lovingly refinished and has a fiery red warmth to it with gorgeous grain detail. It contrasts absolutely beautifully against the cognac cushions. The combination of these natural materials will instantly inject a ton of warmth and charm to your space. As for comfort, this is by far the most comfortable Bastiano sofa we've ever handled. The feather down cushions provide that good "sink-in-your-seat" comfort, and the backrest hits you just in the right spot. This collection worthy sofa is undoubtedly the nicest example on the market. Dare I say, the perfect sofa. The original feather inserts are stamped with the manufacturing date, and all the original hardware is perfectly intact.
