This outstanding American studio craft bed was made in California in the 1980s by an unknown craftsman. This queen size platform bed, crafted in two mirroring pieces, is constructed of solid Purple Heart wood which is one of the most expensive woods tin the world. Purple Heart is also incredibly difficult to work with due to the density of the wood, so whoever built this really knew what they were doing and would have spent a very very long time diligently crafting this piece. Lots of interesting angles and sculptural details, as well as beautiful dovetail joinery at all the corners. The unique base reminds us of a George Nakashima Greenrock ottoman. This low, luxurious, one-of-a-kind bed is a true work of art, and will be the focal point of your bedroom.
Assembly: The two mirroring bed pieces are pushed together to meet in the middle and then connected with simple blocks which screw into the inside of the frame, joining the two pieces at each end. The solid maple slats can be lined up perpendicular the runners and drilled in. Another option would be to have a piece of nice plywood cut out to fit the inside of the frame.
