A wonderful and uncommon chest of drawers designed by Mel Smilow and manufactured by Red Lion Furniture in the 1950s. This versatile piece consists of a walnut veneer case featuring two drawers, which floats atop an angular black metal base. Ingeniously, the front of the base also acts as the drawer pulls, as can be seen in the photos.
The walnut case has been gently refinished and is in lovely vintage condition with some nominal cosmetic wear consistent with age. We have decided to leave the base original with all its glorious wear. The distressed look of the metal contrasts beautifully against the smooth, reddish walnut.
This piece would be perfect under a tv, as a small credenza, or as a large bedside table. Such a versatile piece!
