A striking set of "Conoid" dining chairs designed by George Nakashima and recreated by Gino Russo in the 1960s. The chairs feature a striking cantilevered design with smooth, solid walnut construction and woven seagrass seats and backs. The chairs are very comfortable, especially with their custom indigo blue linen seat pads.
Gino Russo, an Italian immigrant, came to the US to work for George Nakashima in the 1960s. After a few years of building furniture for George, he opened his own studio creating Nakashima inspired pieces. These rare chairs pay proper homage to Nakashima's iconic "Conoid" chair design.
The chairs frames have been gently restored and are in lovely, smooth and sturdy condition, with light age consistent patina to the wood. The original seagrass is strong and sturdy with a couple a broken pieces on two of the seats on the underside. This is hardly noticeable and does not affect the stability whatsoever. The chairs may be used with or without the pads as you wish. These are ready to be placed in your interior.
